KANTLIJN binding tablecloth
KANTLIJN binding tablecloth
The outcome of a cooperation between textile designer Eef Oost and James Van Vossel.
KANTLIJN is a tablecloth that responds to daily needs. The table as a centre of sociability where people are present as an individual, as a family or assembled together. While one is drawing, the other is working, a third person is reading a magazine and the others have a coffee. They are sitting all together with an underlay of woven surfaces, serenely linked by a highlighted thread. For Eef and James, this tablecloth acts with thoughtful simplicity, started from pure craftsmanship and it intensifies the individual person in the interplay.
The use of a modular fabric in combination with side flaps with different heights, creates a playful game. This play shows itself on the table surface, through the overlapping parts, as well on the sides. On the table surface, the “weaving” issue is represented in a full grid, while the individual direction of warp and weft can be felt on the table sides. The centre pieces have a single direction and therefore the lines just follow one way. A highlighted thread has been added, “de kantlijn”, always at the same height from the edge of the table. This accent underlines the subtle character of the weaving. Because of this the two different side flaps can move freely at the table corner but with a clear connection.
